Uniform Information

Why Dancers Wear Uniforms:

  • Equality: When everyone is wearing uniforms it helps to reinforce the idea that all students are equal. Having a standard dress code helps students feel a sense of teamwork. It encourages the fact that the dancing is the thing that is highlighted rather than the outfit.

  • Safety: Uniforms ensure clothing is safe and practical for dancing while allowing the dancer to move freely without any material restricting the movement. Improper clothing can impact technique, precision, ability to grip the floor, and visibility.

  • Distractions: Uniforms also eliminate any distractions about what others are wearing and help students to focus more in class.

  • Alignment: Uniforms enable teachers to see the alignment of students’ bodies while dancing, ensuring that students are developing proper technique.

  • Respect: When dancers wear the correct uniform it is a sign of respect to the teacher and studio. It tells the teacher that the student cares about the art form that the studio is dedicated to.

  • Dancing Mindset: Putting uniforms on in preparation for class puts students in a mindset for dancing. Just as we would put a bathing suit on to swim or a team uniform to play soccer, dance uniforms make students feel prepared and ready to dance.

Uniforms are never used to body-shame dancers or suggest that a student needs to conform to a particular identity.  Dancers are welcome to wear tights and slippers that match their skin tone as well as wear both gender uniform options provided below.
